PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet recording fluid which can give prints having good water resistance and excellent light resistance and can be stably delivered without plugging by using a dye which gives an aqueous solution having a specified absorbance at the maximum absorption wavelength and having a viscosity of a specified value or above at a specified temperature. SOLUTION: A dye which gives an aqueous solution having an absorbance of 1,000 at the maximum absorption wavelength and having a viscosity of 2 cP or above at 20 deg.C is used. This fluid is desirably a water-base recording fluid, especially a recording fluid containing a water-soluble organic solvent and is desirably one having a viscosity of 3 cP or above at 2 deg.C. Also one having a viscosity at 50 deg.C and a viscosity at 20 deg.C different from each other by at least 1.5 cP is desirable. The dye parent structure is most suitably an azo dye. The dye is desirably one having a water-soluble group, especially a sulfo group. The counter ion of the sulfonic acid is desirably sodium or potassium.
