PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a translucent reflection type liquid-crystal device which makes a transmission display efficiently without spoiling the lightness of a reflection display. SOLUTION: This liquid-crystal display device is equipped with a liquid- crystal panel formed by sandwiching a liquid-crystal composition 105 between a couple of substrates 103 and 106 having transparent electrodes 104, a polarizing plate 101 which is arranged on the observer's side of the liquid-crystal panel, and a reflection polarizer 108 and lighting device 109 and 10 which are arranged on the opposite side of the liquid crystal panel from the polarizing plate. In this case, the reflection polarizer 108 functions to reflect a polarized light component in a specific state and transmit a polarized light component different from it, and the lighting device is substantially black when emitting no light. |
