A portable communication terminal 1 comprises a user interface 5-8, a radio transceiver for communicating with a telecommunication network, and an infrared transceiver 16 by which an infrared communication link can be established with a local terminal 50. In response to a user input via the user interface 6, the portable terminal 1 monitors signals received by the infrared transceiver 16 with a view to establishing the infrared link. The portable terminal 1 may be a mobile phone. The local terminal 50 may be a PC computer. The user input may comprise the depression of certain keys on the user interface 6, or may comprise a voice command to the microphone 7. |
