In a dual lip seal for a rotary axle 17 comprising a casing 2 having a cylindrical portion 6 and inwardly directed flange 5 to which is bonded a resilient seal member 8 having a fluidsealing lip 13 urged inwardly by a garter spring 18 and a dust-sealing lip 14, the spring 18 is held captive in the seal, in the event of its breaking or being dislodged from its groove 19 in use, by an integral retainer portion 15 that extends radially inward adjacent the lip 13. The member 8 has an annular portion 11 and a lip portion 10 bonded to the inner and outer faces respectively of the flange 5 and a body portion 9 from which the fluid-sealing lip 13 and dust-sealing lip 14 extend to engage a sleeve 16 fixed to the rotary axle 17.</p> |
