A dual glass composition for producing irregularly shaped dual glass fibers is disclosed, which dual glass composition includes first and second glass compositions. The first composition includes the following components, indicated in weight percents: about 40 to less than 50 percent SiO2, greater than 3 to about 10 percent Al2O3, about 6 to about 16 percent CaO, about 0 to about 4 percent MgO, about 12 to about 27 percent B2O3, about 2 to about 13 percent Na2O, and about 0 to about 3 percent K2O, wherein the total weight percent of all components, including trace elements, if any, is 100 percent. The first and second compositions have nonidentical coefficients of thermal expansion having a difference greater than about 2.0 ppm/ DEG C, log3 viscosity temperatures within the range of from about 1750 to less than 1850 DEG F (954 DEG C to less than 1010 DEG C), and liquidus temperatures less than about 1750 DEG F (954 DEG C) and at least 50 DEG F (28 DEG C) below that of the log3 viscosity temperatures. |
