PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble cutting fluid for a wire saw which contains abrasive grains dispersed stably, exhibits improved adhesion of abrasive grains to a wire saw, and enables a work to be cut uniformly by compounding a water-soluble solvent with a specified amt. of hectorite, water or an inorg. oxide powder, and a water-soluble thickener. SOLUTION: At least one water-soluble solvent selected from among (di) ethylene glycol, tri- or tetraethylene glycol, propylene glycol, hexylene glycol, glycerin, 1,3-propanediol, 1,4-butanediol, 1,6-hexanediol, polyethylene glycol, and a polyethylene glycol-polypropylene glycol copolymer is compounded with 0.2-5 wt.% hectorite having a particle size of 10-200 nm, 2-30 wt.% water or 0.5-30 wt.% inorg. oxide powder selected from among silica gel, alumina, and titanium oxide and having a particle size of 10 nm to 100μm, and if necessary 0.1-5 wt.% water-soluble thickener comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone having a mol.wt. of 10,000-2,000,000. |
