SOLUTION: When the moving instruction of a mouse cursor is inputted with the operation of a pointing device, a KANA/KANJI conversion controlling part 10 acquires a retrieval character string to execute retrieval of an electronic dictionary 24 when the mouse cursor exists within a conversion character string area. And it gives an acquired retrieval character string to an electronic dictionary controlling part 20 and requests retrieval execution of the dictionary 24. The part 20 retrieves the dictionary 24 by using an electronic dictionary retrieving part 22 and sets semantic information as a retrieval result to a retrieval result preserving part 26 when the semantic information is acquired.
