SOLUTION: This is a tube kind discriminating device for cast iron tube P, which has uneven characters (a) for tube kind representation on the surface of its flange F. The uneven characters (a) are irradiated with sectorial laser light (c) in its flange radius direction over the total length, the reflected light c' of the sectorial laser light (c) from the flange surface is received to read out the uneven state of the uneven characters (a) in the flange radius direction as linear information and compare it with previously set reference information on the uneven characters (a), thereby discriminating the kind of the cast iron tube P.
