PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make recovery processing executable only to such recording elements that require recovery processing. SOLUTION: An ink jet line head H has a long discharge port face (f). A plurality of recording elements are provided at the discharge port face (f), and the recording elements are divided into a plurality of blocks. A block to which the recording elements requiring recovery processing belong is selected out of the blocks in plural numbers. Preliminary jetting is made to all of the recording elements belonging to the selected block, and preliminary jetting is not made to the recording elements belonging to the blocks that are not selected. |
