PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound having epoxy functional groups and useful as a raw material for contact lenses. SOLUTION: The silicone-modified derivative of 1.6; 2,3-dianhydro-β-D- glucopyranose represented by formula I and formula II [(n) is 1-4; R1 -R3 are each a 1-7C alkyl, a 1-7C fluoroalkyl, phenyl, or a siloxanyl having 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C fluoroalkyl groups and having the silicon atom number of 1-20). The compound is obtained by reacting 1,6-anhydro-β-D-glucopyranose of formula III with p-toluenesulfonyl chloride, subjecting the obtained tosylate to a p- toluenesulfonic acid-removing reaction using sodium methoxide and subsequently hydrosilylating the obtained 2,3-epoxide. A polymer obtained from the derivative simultaneously has high oxygen permeability, high hydrophilicity, high water retainability, high hardness and high impact resistance, and is useful for producing nonporous contact lenses not containing water.
