FIELD: industrial inorganic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of fine metal or metalloid oxides from halides. Oxide powders are prepared by oxidizing tetrachlorides by oxygen. Liquid tetrachlorides are pulverized in oxygen-containing plasma heat carrier. Oxygen intake provides at least half stoichiometrically required amount of oxygen. Pulverized are titanium, silicon, tin, and germanium tetrachlorides. Titanium tetrachloride is pulverized under angle 10 to 25 deg. to direction of plasma heat carrier motion in at least two pairs of countercurrent jets. Modifying additives, in particular, aluminum trichloride, silicon tetrachloride and/or carbon tetrachloride are introduced into reaction zone in the form of titanium tetrachloride solution. These additives speed up evaporation of dispersed liquid drops in high-temperature gas and decrease size of titanium dioxide powder particles. EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency. 7 cl, 4 ex
