The device has a flexible carrier (5), with a coating layer (6) of elastic material. This has one surface (60) for contact with the flange connection (2,3), and a second opposite surface (61) in touch with the carrier. The layer is fastened to the carrier by adhesive. A clamp (8A,B) connects two parts of the carrier, so that it partially surrounds the flange connection, and the elastic layer is compressed. There is an aperture to drain a fluid from the area between the flange connection and the first surface of the elastic layer, into the surrounding area.
