PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner supplying method and device capable of detecting deficiency of toner in a toner container, so as to inform a user of the exchange time of the toner container, without providing a special detecting means in the toner container for supplying toner to a developing unit. SOLUTION: The toner supplying work time to supply toner to the developing unit 10 from the toner container 31, at the time of executing an initial stage installation mode where toner is absent in the developing unit 10, is set to be longer than that at the time of executing a toner supplying mode for normal printing. When it is detected that the quantity of the toner in the developing unit is less than a specified one the toner is supplied, and the specified toner quantity is detected to control the stopping of the supply of the toner. The exchange of the toner container 31 is displayed when a consumption is greater than a supply under the condition that the quantity of the toner in the developing unit 10 is less than the specified one or with the lapse of the toner supplying work time set at the time of executing the initial stage installation mode. |
