SOLUTION: The gloss of the image depends on the fusion time, namely, fusion speed and contact length, fusion temp., and quantity of oil. The time for fusing device rollers 60 and 62 to come into contact with toner particles on a sheet 54, depends on the speed of the sheet 54 with respect to a nip 61 and the length of the nip 61, rather than the fusing time. The fusion temp. depends on the heat capacity and thermal conductivity, and the thermal conductivity from the roller surface to the image receiving sheet. By applying the normal control or the fuzzy inference control, considering the glossiness grade, the quality of paper to be selected and the numbers of prints to be produced, and combining the fusing temp. and the fusing speed, the most effective result can be obtained. In this way, when the fusing temp. falls, as a result of the extreme heat loss, by making the speed of the fusing roller adapted for every page, the uniform glossiness can be realized.
