Acyclic olefins are disproportionated in the presence of a catalyst made by impregnating Al2O3 with a solution of rhenium heptoxide, Re2O7, in an inert organic solvent selected from C1- 4 alcohols, ketones or ethers, dioxan or tetrahydropyran, and removing the solvent. Specified alkenes are propylene, butenes-1 and 2, 1-2, pentenes, hexenes-1, -2, -3, heptenes-1, -2, -3, and octenes 1-2. In an example, butene-1 is disproportionated at 40 DEG C., and GHSV of 4000 yielding ethylene, propylene, pentenes and hexene-3.ALSO:Disproportionation catalysts consisting of Re2O7 or Al2O3 are prepared by impregnating Al2O3 with a solution of rhenium heptoxide Re2O7, in an inert organic solvent selected from C1-4 alcohols, aliphatic ketones and ethers having up to 4 carbon atoms, dioxan or tetrahydropyron, and removing the solvent. The catalyst may be activating by heating in air and/or inert gas. In example g -Al2O3 of surface area 250 m2/gm. and pore volume 0.37 cc./gm. is impregnated with Re2O7 in MeOH or dioxan. |
