A number of chain links (2a) and a number of guide links are mounted alternately next to one another on the hinge pins (4) of the chain. Both the chain links and the guide links are provided, at one side, with teeth which engage with the teeth on a toothed wheel (5) Locating links (7) are mounted on the outsides of the stacks of guide links and chain links. The inside faces of the locating links lie against the side faces of the of the teeth of the toothed wheel. The tops of the chain and guide links are flat.The flats of the links are in line with one another when the chain lies straight. The backs of the locating links have teeth which engage with teeth (6A) on a wheel which is mounted on the other side of the chain.
