The tool has an integral sensor and analyser electronics for acoustic signals. The sensor unit is arranged in a hollow space (5) or recess of the tool or the tool holder (2), preferably near the working part of the tool, e.g. the blade (1). The sensor unit is arranged so that the signal to be monitored reaches the signal without being negatively affected. Preferably, an electronic switching system is integrated in the same position, to supply the signal to the analyser electronics.
