Control of operation of household equipment

The operating method is performed by a user control panel of an item of household electrical equipment. The panel has contact surfaces (27,28) relating to different functions. Associated with these are a number of piezoelectric contact sensors (11-14) and the outputs of these are fed to an analogue to digital converter (6) coupled to a microprocessor control unit for comparison with reference values. This controls power supply to such as the heater elements of a cooker.
