The laboratory apparatus for collecting a liquid sample, particularly liquefied gas, comprises a tube (13), closed at either end by a valve (8). The tube (13) also communicates with an expansion vessel (1) in whose cylindrical bore (7) a close fitting piston (2) can rise against spring pressure as a gas phase develops. Also claimed is a process for taking samples.
