Tactile image sensing system as aid for the blind

The system has an image processing unit (11) that is based around a CPU (13) that is connected to interface modules that connect to personal computer, a video camera, fax machine, etc. (10). The image processor operates with a programme stored in EPROM memory and the video data can be buffered in memory (14) or can be directed to a tactile image sensing module (12). This has a matrix of sensing pins that are activated such that the image pattern can be determined by finger contact.
