The motor has areas of different air pressure within the motor housing separated from one another via partition walls (63,64,65,66; 34,35), enclosing the active magnetic bearings (60,61) for the rotor shaft. The area defined by the energising machine (4) and the associated outer magnetic bearing (62) is coupled via an air channel within the main frame (1) of the synchronous motor with the space between the rotor magnetic bearings.
