The rail-guided automatically controlled vehicles move along tracks (2) in closed hollow chambers (3). In the chambers at input and output stations (6) for the freight, branches are provided for the vehicles on which transport paths run with devices for the removal or supply of freight as well as for loading or unloading the vehicles. The hollow chambers are pipes resting on legs (4). The vehicles have their own intelligence on a microprocessor or microcomputer basis. The vehicles are connected by a transmission channel to a control room (17). The transmission channel has a conductor that runs parallel to the tracks. On the vehicles are provided transponders for wireless communication of information to and from this conductor.
