Natural and synthetic fibres are dyed by contacting the fibres with a dyestuff and fixing the dye by treating the fibre with the vapours of water and furfural, preferably the fibres are dried before the fixing stage. Fibres treated are acrylic, polyamide, polyester and blends thereof e.g. polyester - cotton blend and dyestuffs include, acid, basic, direct, disperse and premetallised dyed, preferably the vapours of water and furfural preferably being at 205-275 DEG F., the concentration of furfural being 7-55% by weight.
