COMPACT DISC LOADER AND TRANSPORT APPARATUS

A compact disc loader and transport apparatus including a plurality of disc transport sites (26) for retrieving, transporting and delivering a plurality of discs during travel among disc storage sites (18) and disc drive mechanisms (20, 22) to thereby retrieve and replace discs from and to disc storage sites (18) as well as from and to disc drive mechanisms (20, 22). The loader and transport apparatus has a plurality of disc transport sites (26) accessible from opposing sides and within each of which a disc can be accommodated. Operation of the system permits a single pass of the loader and transport apparatus among storage sites (18) and drive mechanisms (20, 22) to accomplish both retrieval and delivery of a plurality of discs, thereby significantly reducing the amount of time as well as mechanical activity required to ultimately access data stored on each respective disc.
