Off line sample analysis

To give an off-line analysis of samples by matrix assisted laser desorption ion (MALDI) mass spectrometry, the samples are held in a number of vessels in a defined x-y grid pattern at a multi-pipette. The samples are taken by the multi pipettes, and at least part of the extracted sample vols. are transferred to mixing vessels arranged in the same x-y grid pattern. The same or a similar multi-pipette system takes at least part of the mixed samples from the vessels to be transferred, with a pipette adapter, to a sample carrier plate for MALDI mass spectrometry. Also claimed is an appts. with a conventional multi-pipette system (3), with the pipette points (4) in a defined x-y grid pattern and with the sample (2) and mixing vessels in the same x-y grid pattern for sample delivery and transfer. A pipette adapter (7) has a side towards the multi pipettes (3) with openings matching their array and with seals (9) to secure the inserted pipette points (4). The seals (7) have channels (10) to carry the samples to a sample carrier plate (13) of the mass spectrometer.
