Control method for IC engine with fuel metering and common rail systems

The control method for an IC engine with a fuel common rail system works so that the pressure of the fuel is regulatable to a specified value in the fuel metering system. Depending on at least one operating characteristic variable, at least two different travel modes are identified, and dependent on the identified travel mode, different desired values are specified for the pressure. The different travel modes are at least dependent on the identification of a travel desired signal. Emanating from a travel pedal position is the alteration of the travel pedal setting and/or a rpm signal whereby the different travel modes are identified.
