Clathrates of bis-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-5-(3-methyl imidazolium-1-yl)-3-(phen-4-yl-azo)-pyridin-2-onethylene with aromatics of formula (I) are new; R<1> = 1-5 C (hydroxy)alkyl or (hydroxy)alkoxy, 1-10C (hydroxy)alkyl or (hydroxy)alkoxy with 1, 2 or 3 non-adjacent oxygen atoms in the chain, 1-6C alkanoyl, hydroxyl, carboxyl, 1-6C alkoxycarbonyl, phenylcarbonyl or 1-6C alkenyl; and R<2> = R<1>, hydrogen or phenoxy.
