A procedure for controlling an internal combustion engine has the fuel injection divided into at least first and second part-injections. A signal determining the fuel quantity to be injected can be corrected. The correction value is formed as the product of two values and takes care of variations in fuel pressure between a measurement of the fuel pressure and the second part-injection. Originating from the correction value and a measured fuel pressure, a corrected fuel pressure value is formed. The duration of the second part-injection can be specified, depending on the corrected fuel pressure or a fuel quantity to be injected.
