A mouse mat 1 incorporates sensor means for generating a control signal in response to a predetermined percussion on the mat, and signalling means 3 for transmitting the control signal to a computer which is programmed to initiate a predetermined action or series of actions according to the control signal received e.g.for generating predetermined sounds of drums or cymbals. The mat includes a base 2 with an array of switches (31, Fig.3) and one of a number replaceable covers 7 which have differently positioned projections 6 engaging with selected switches (20-23, Fig.2) in the signalling means 3 to vary the control signals produced according to the appearance of the cover. The mat may be provided with a microphone and loudspeaker for use as a speakerphone and may carry a representation of a telephone dial or have names written on a wipe-clean surface over stored numbers. |
