The monitoring equipment (7) comprises a microphone (9) for picking up the noise from the environment and a receiver (5) positioned next to the child. The acoustic signals are converted into electrical signals and sent via a cable (11) to a transmitter (13) placed outside the room (1) being monitored. The cable can be laid under the door (15). The transmitter is directly plugged into the socket (17) providing the power supply both for the transmitter and the receiver. The transmitter has an additional receiver which is activated automatically as soon as the primary receiver (5) is removed from the socket.
