PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image data recording reproducing system which can reproduce images at a higher speed than conventional ones. SOLUTION: An image reproducing device 4 has a CPU 23 to control image reproduction and when an instruction to reproduce images is given from a keyboard 31, it controls to read out compressed image data recorded in a hard disk having a high access speed in an image recording device priorly, display it on a display 26 after expansion in a data expansion circuit 27, and after that, to read out compressed image data recorded in an optical disk device having a lower access speed and display it on the display 26. By this, further speedy image reproduction can be obtained.
