PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire for gas shielded arc welding and its manufacture that withstands the resistance of a large conduit tube, that is free from slipping in a feeding roller part, and that is capable of smoothly feeding inside the conduit tube, in spite of such situations as a long size of a conduit cable, complication of a structure, and rough use of a conduit cable in site welding incident to a large scale. SOLUTION: In drawing a base wire rod 1 of a wire for gas shielded arc welding, by plural sets of cassette type roller dies 11 and then by cavity type dies, to a prescribed fine diameter, recessed and projected parts are produced on the wire surface by at least one set of the cassette type roller dies 11. In addition, the roughness Ra of the wire surface is set as 0.3-2μm before the wire drawing by the cavity type dies. Further, the reduction of area by the cavity type dies is set as 20-80%.
