PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a Au-coated sheet in a short process which has high adhesion property between Au and the base material and high reliability as a sample base for a scanning tunnel analysis microscope and which can be cut into a desired shape by forming a Au sputtering film on the surface of a base sheet in such a manner that the film surface contains a specified proportion of a specified crystalline face. SOLUTION: After the surface of a base sheet is cleaned, a Au film is applied by sputtering on the surface to 100 to 10000Åto obtain a Au-coated sheet having Au (111) plane by >=70% of the surface. As for the base sheet, an org. polymer sheet and a Ni-plated Al sheet can be used. As for the org. polymer, especially polyester, polymethylmethacrylate, polycarbonate and polyimide can be used. The surface roughness of the Au-coated sheet as the final product is required to <=20nm. If the base sheet is a Ni-plated Al sheet, the sheet is processed to have V-shaped grooves according to the shape for the final use.
