PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent creasing of a thermal transfer film as thin as severalμm dynamically by dividing a tensile force acting on the thermal transfer film in the carrying direction thereof into components of tensile force directing outward while intersecting the tensile force. SOLUTION: The thermal transfer printer comprises a tension imparting member 7 having a central protrusion 71 interposed between a thermal head 1 and a thermal transfer film supply roll 45 while intersecting the carrying direction of thermal transfer film 4. Since the protrusion 71 divides a tensile force acting on the thermal transfer film 4 in the carrying direction into two components of force directing outward of the film while intersecting the carrying direction, the film is stretched in the carrying direction and prevented from being creased.
