PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve abrasion resistance and durability by forming joint link surfaces of first and second components separately out of a cobalt chromium alloy containing specified wt.% of carbon. SOLUTION: An artificial coxa 1 is made up of an acetabulum component 12 and a thigh component 14. The internal surface 20 of a joint link of the acetabulum component 12 is built by arranging an insert 18 comprising a cobalt chromium containing at least 0.18wt.%, for instance, about 0.22wt.% of carbon in a shell 17. A caput 16 of the thigh component 14 is formed to almost match the internal surface of the joint link of the insert 18. The caput 16 and the thigh stem are both formed out of a cobalt chromium alloy containing up to 0.1wt.%, for example, 0.06wt.% of carbon. The shell 17 is made of a titanium alloy. This can reduce the degree of wearing attributed to the walking cycle of the artificial coxa. |
