PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbonaceous powder slurry improved in the dispersibility of the carbonaceous powder and enabling to produce stable coatings free from irregular color development by including water and a dispersant in prescribed amounts, respectively, in the slurry and controlling the viscosity of the slurry to a specific value or less. SOLUTION: This carbonaceous powder slurry to be added to coatings has a water content of 20-40wt.%, a dispersant content of <=5wt.% and a viscosity of <=500cp. The carbonaceous powder slurry for coatings is obtained e.g. by charging 2000cc of distilled water, 100cc of a 40% aqueous ammonium condensed naphthalenesulfonate solution, 12cc of a 34% aqueous styrene-acrylic acid copolymer solution, and 2500g of zirconia balls (ϕ5) as pebbles into a 5000cc pot, well mixing the materials by the use of a ball mill, further adding 3260g of 500 mesh petroleum coke to the mixture and well mixing the mixture.
