PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical liq. crystal display, esp. an IPS display, having a relatively low threshold voltage and a short response time. SOLUTION: This display has a realignment layer for realigning a liq. crystal, has an effective structural element parallel to a liq. crystal layer on the spot, and contains a liq. crystal medium having a negative dielectric anisotropy.
