PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the infiltration of carbon from a furnace body and an exothermic body to the utmost, at the time of sintering Ti in a vacuum sintering furnace where carbon is used for a furnace body and an exothermic body, and to provide a method of production of a Ti sintered compact free from formation of a carbide at the surface of the sintered compact and excellent in mechanical properties. SOLUTION: A green compact 3, composed of fine Ti powder of <=15μm average grain size, is embedded in a ceramic powder 2, which is inserted into a dense vessel 1. Further, this vessel is inserted into a larger dense vessel. Moreover, the spacing between the two vessels is filled with a ceramic powder. The resultant double vessel is inserted into a carbon furnace, and sintering is done in vacuum of <=1×10<-4> Torr at <=1050 deg.C to produce the Ti sintered compact. |
