PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate an ink cartridge to be mounted in a carriage of an ink-jet printer by providing an ink feed part at a position confronting to a nozzle of a printing head which has finished printing and stopped outside a printing area, and connecting to an ink meniscus of an ink feed hole. SOLUTION: An ink feed part 33, an ink feed part 34, a flexible tube 35 and a bracket 36 are filled with ink and connected to an ink inside a cartridge 37. A negative pressure in the ink feed part 33 because of a height difference H or the ink feed part 33 and a surface of the ink inside the cartridge 37 is kept by a recessed meniscus formed at an ink feed hole by a capillary attraction. After a carriage 15 stops, a pinch valve 40 starts to operate to compress the flexible tube 35, whereby the ink in the ink feed part 33 is shut from the ink in the cartridge 37. Thereafter, a PZT of the ink feed part 33 is activated to drive a vibrating plate, whereby the recessed meniscus of the ink feed hole is changed to a projecting meniscus. |
