PURPOSE:To form intricate fixed patterns in a negative type with good productivity by forming a fixed display part by the seal in a display area on the inner side of a peripheral seal and forming the contour of the display part of the colored film on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The fixed display part is formed of the seal 3 in the display area provided on the inner side of the peripheral seal 2. The contour of this fixed display part is formed of the colored film 4 of the substrate 1B with good linearity and the colored film 4 and the sealing material 3 are overlapped, by which the sharp fixed display pattern 9 is obtd. The colored film 4 plays the role of a dam as well in the process of being successively spread by the pressure contact of the sealing material 3 and, therefore, the thickness thereof is preferably >= 2mum and black is adequate as the color for the liquid crystal display element of the negative type. The orientation defect intrinsic to mask rubbing method is eliminated in this way and the sharp fixed pattern is formed. |
