The load handling machine comprises a chassis (4) provided with a caterpillar track (5) supporting it on a surface (6). Hoist cables (9) displace the load along a vertical axis. The chassis carries four telescopic poles (8) extending in opposite directions, the free ends of which define a quadrilateral in which the chassis is inscribed. The hoist cables are suspended at the free ends of the poles which themselves are provided with load anchoring means (10). The poles are connected to the chassis by an articulation (11) and means lock rotation of the poles. The handling machine provides improved safety.
