A system for attaching studs to boots used in football, rugby or similar sports, uses studs (10) which are elongated in shape, with curved edges (12), positioning lugs (16, 18) on their under surfaces, and a threaded hole in each stud for a fixing screw.The studs can be fastened to the sole of the boot in a lengthwise or transverse direction by engaging their lugs with transverse strips or plates which have notches in them for the lugs and are connected to the boot sole by screws
