A brush (9) is spring-supported against a variable pressure working cylinder (4), and forms a wedge-form inlet gap (15) converging in the direction of travel of the object being straightened. The working cylinder is single-acting and of low friction. A guide pin (7) supporting the brush, and the piston rod (5) of the cylinder are connected by an alignment tolerance compensating coupling (6). The mounting (1) for the cylinder is adjustable by swivelling on a frame-fixed pivot point (3).
