The angle setting fitting has a locking catch (7) fixed to the seat and turning round a horizontal axis (8) to lock the backrest (1) in different positions by teeth (7a) engaging with teeth (4a) of a gear segment (4) turning on a horizontal axis (10) fixed to the seat. The locking catch has a narrowed region (e) between its teeth and a resting region (7b) opposite them. This makes the locking catch elastically deformable in the direction transverse to the connecting line between the teeth and the resting region.
