Oxidation resistant titanium-aluminium alloy

Novel psi -TiAl alloy contains added elements Y with low oxygen affinity or elements X which can form AlX4 type compounds with Al. Preferably, X is Ag, Cu or Au, Y is Re or Pd and the Al content is /- 42 at.%. Also claimed are (i) a component for use at above 800 deg C and made of the above alloy; and (ii) a process for producing an oxidation resistant alloy by pre-oxidising the above alloy at 700-1000 deg C in a nitrogen-free atmosphere for 1-25 hrs.
