The invention relates to a support element (1) which is produced in such a way that it can be shut-off from the cam stroke. Said support element has a coupling element (9) manufactured in the form of a piston and which runs radially. To perform the coupling action, said coupling element (9) covers a ring area between its housing (3) and its pressure piston (4). In order to perform decoupling, the coupling element (9) can be shifted completely into the pressure piston (4). Since the coupling agent is only intended to be shifted in the base circle of a cam (13), acting upon a trailing lever (6) which is supported on the supporting element (1), any undesired shifting movements of said coupling agent (9) outside the base circle phase should be blocked. To this end, the invention provides that the pressure piston (4) has an axially displaceable blocking element (15) which can be shifted into a detent hump (22) in the coupling agent (9). Said blocking element (25) is controlled indirectly via a transfer element (16) which communicates with a control contour (17) on the outer jacket (18) of the cam (13).
