The amusement machine operating method involves a credit point counter indexed in the negative direction at each play and indexed in the positive direction by the player score. A chip card reader (4) is coupled to the central control unit (5) of the amusement machine (1) for scanning an inserted chip card (13) and verifying that it contains credit points, before transfer of the latter to the point counter, or for transfer of accumulated credit points from the counter to the card.
