Filtering device, filter element for preparing brewed beverages, and process for producing the filter element (28) made of filter paper. The filter element (28) has a receptacle (76) for filling with products to be extracted, such as coffee powder or tea leaves. In contact with boiling water, the products release extracted substances and a brewed beverage flows out of the filter element (28). The filter element (28) is supported on a filter support (1) by holding means which consist of an edge (39) shaped on the filter element (28) with a supporting surface (40) and of a supporting surface (24) shaped on the filter support (1). The edge (39) of the filter element (28) is mechanically reinforced by open filter paper folds (42, 51, 52) which cooperate with corresponding projections (115) and recesses (79) of the supporting surface (24) of the filter support (1). This filtering device is substantially easier to produce and handle. At the same time, brewing results are improved. This filter element (28) is also easier to place in a filter housing (16) and to fill, for example with coffee powder. Many filter elements (28) can be produced in a single operation and be stacked in a narrow space. The filter element is retained in the filtering device without additional securing means.
