Piston engine directly-controlled cartridge valve seal

A seal arrangement for a directly-controlled cartridge valve is push-fit into a drill hole within a hydraulic system which varies the valve control opening and closing times within a piston engine. To minimise the leaks caused by radial play between the cartridge (5) ring cross-pieces (8, 9, 10) and the bore hole (23) wall (24), the cross-pieces (8, 9, 10) on the cartridge (5) mantle surface (6) have a smaller diameter than the drill hole (23) and bear circular grooves (14, 15, 16). Sheer-resistant ring seals (17, 18, 19) are also positioned in the circular grooves (14, 15, 16), preventing hydraulic leaks between the seals (18, 18, 19) and cartridge (5), and between the seals (18, 18, 19) and the drill hole (23) wall (24).
