The invention relates to a protective element (1) with a channel segment (5). The channel segment (5) is defined by two opposite lying side walls (2, 3) set apart from each other, a base wall (4) and a lid (6). The base wall (4) is connected to the side walls (2, 3). The lid (6) is linked to the side wall (3) by means of a knuckle joint (7) enabling said lid (6) to be placed in two different stable positions.
